Online car buying continues to grow as showrooms reopen their doors

As the UK motor industry rejoices in the recent announcement from the government that car showrooms across the UK can reopen their doors, car buyers looking to get a closer look at their next car continue to turn to Exchange and Mart, with visits to the used car platform increasing 19% in March compared to February and 33% year on year.

Whilst the news of showrooms reopening is a welcome one, Exchange and Mart understands that many car buyers will still be keen to do the majority of their research at home. As car dealers adapted to the closure of showrooms over the past year, by introducing Distance Selling with video walkthroughs, virtual test drives and home deliveries, Exchange and Mart is also committed to improving online car buying.  Not only can car buyers search for their next car from hundreds of thousands of used car deals, they can get a feel for the car by viewing video walkthroughs supplied by the dealers and watch hundreds of test drive videos on the site.

Dawn Sweeney, Managing Director of Exchange and Mart, said “During the pandemic we have been committed to ensuring that car buyers can continue their buying journey from the comfort, and safety, of their own home. We were already well equipped to assist in a more digital buying journey with hundreds of expert road test videos, new and used car reviews, buying tips and advice, as well as hundreds of thousands of great used car deals from local, trusted dealers in the UK. Car dealers in the UK truly stepped up during lockdown to ensure that those who needed to buy a car could do so safely, and we are only too pleased to assist and adapt our site to meet those needs, by including video walkthroughs and we fully expect Distance Selling to be a part of our dealers toolkit going forward.”

In addition to Distance Selling being here to stay, the move to electric is gathering pace despite the Government recently decreasing the plug-in car grant incentive with the decision being described by The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) as ‘the wrong move at the wrong time’.  The used car platform is even more determined to educate drivers on making the switch to electric.

“One of our main goals this year is to shine a light on the growing demand for used electric and hybrid cars and creating this resource packed with education, reviews, news articles and most importantly, the best deals on used electric and hybrid cars, is something which we feel is missing for car buyers.”

Car buyers looking to make the switch to an electric or hybrid car can find out all they need to know to assist in their decision making at www.exchangeandmart.co.uk/electric-cars.
