FINISHED IN CREAM COMPLIMENTED WITH CONTRASTING BROWN LEATHER INTERIOR. A 2 litre 4 speed manual edition straight six. She has come direct from a private collector. The paintwork has a nice age and patina with good panel fit very fitting for the grand carriage that she is very solid, and quite usable with her smooth lines, it makes for a very grand looking 3 position drop head coupe indeed. This car has had the benefit of a total rewire and re-upholstered seats, with a full service and re-tune for ease of driving with modern day traffic. The Hurricane was produced from 1946 to 1953 and was based on the Lancaster Saloon, only 2,600 were made with this particular model sporting a 70hp overhead valve engine. The chassis featured independent front suspension using torsion bars and a live rear axle with leaf springs. A Girling hydro-mechanical braking system was fitted, with the front drums hydraulically operated while those at the rear used rod and cable. The body is made of steel and aluminium panel, fitted over a wood and aluminium frame. The doors are rear hinged which is why they got the name of suicide doors. A very well presented car and ready to use ...............

A rare and handsome two door, four seat saloon, well constructed in typical Rippon fashion and very nicely restored in the late 1980s/early 1990s. With one owner for the last 25 years or so, used and enjoyed (including a rally in Jordan), well cared for and still in very good order, running and driving very nicely. The body is attractive, very sound, and incorporates various appealing features, such as ‘trouser crease’ wings, stylish swage lines, sunroof, rear quarter windows and draft deflectors at the top of the door windows. Very nice mechanically, with an excellent engine, very smart and correct under the bonnet, and an all round very desirable car. Quite possibly the only one built to this design. Chassis No. GEX24 Reg. No. UG 5656 £57,500. Snippets: Charles’s Three Wives – divorced, died, survived. Although GEX24 was owned by Charles Frederick Ratcliffe-Brotherton and register at Rounday Hall, Leeds he did not actually own the Hall as it had been gifted by Sir Edward Brotherton (his Uncle) to Charles’s wife Dorothy Una Clough (1887/1967). Dorothy married Charles Ratcliffe (the Brotherton was added later) in September 1909 but the marriage was not a success, however Dorothy & her uncle-in-law became great friends – even to the extent that she became his Lady Mayoress (his wife had died in childbirth some years earlier). During the late 1920s Dorothy met & fell in love with Noel MacGrigor Phillips but to avoid upsetting Sir Edward with the scandal of divorce Charles & Dorothy waited until Sir Edward had died before separating. Unusually for that period Dorothy was the guilty party & after the divorce she & Noel Phillips married only for him to die unexpectedly in 1942; she later remarried & requested that her 3rd husband change his name by deed-po
