From flashy to family friendly, they range from Ferraris to Range Rovers, with the price point ranging from 6 figures to a couple of million. Small change for some but for others they are cars that dreams are made of. It was hard to choose, but here are our top picks for luxury motors that are fit for a footballer – and anyone else looking to flash the cash.
Initially a concept car revealed back in 2009, the i8 is a plug-in hybrid sports car developed by BMW and marketed as a new brand, BMW i. Production began in 2013 and was released in Germany in 2014. It features butterfly doors, heads up display and partially false engine noise. In it’s full electric mode it can reach a top speed of 75 mph. Popular with many footballers like Wayne Rooney and the full Leicester squad after their owner gifted the full team with a brand-new BMW i8 each after winning the Premiership League 2015-2016 season.
Identified by its boxy styling, the G Wagon is a luxury SUV originally developed as a military vehicle for the King of Iran but a favourite amongst footballers and other celebrities. Despite the GL-class being introduced in 2006 as an intended replacement for the G Wagon, it is still in production and one of the longest produced vehicles for Mercedes-Benz. A classic version from 1989 can start from £19,000 to over £100,000 for a new model.
Range Rover Sport
You can guarantee that they’ll be a handful of these pulling up to players’ lounge on match day. But it won’t be the bog-standard version they’ll be driving, with upgraded features from leather interior, panoramic roof, BOSE sound systems, carbon fibre body styling and black gloss rims. Prices depend on the level of customisation, from around £8,000 for a 2006 model to £120,000 for a 2018 Overfinch with 5.0 V8 engine.
First appearing in 2003 at both the Frankfurt and Geneva Motor Shows, the R8 was officially launched at the Paris Auto Show in 2006. Known for its iconic full-LED headlamps, it has won many accolades including the Fastest Car in The World of 2007 by Autocar Magazine, prototypes of the car have appeared in many films including Iron Man and X-Men. Prices can start around £40,000 for a 2007/08 model, rising to £134,000 for a 2018 model.
Designed for the driver that wants to be seen and heard! Lamborghini is well-known for it’s loud colours and even louder engines. They’re iconic cars are synonymous with the rich and famous, and loved by footballers around the world. Named after a famous breed of fighting bull, the Gallardo is Lamborghini’s best-selling model. They are known to be fast, with several special editions being donated to the Italian police force. Sadly, it is no longer in production, but you can still bag yourself a pretty nice second hand one, prices ranging from £80,000 to over £100,000.
Bentley Continental GT
Production of the first-generation GT ran from 2003-2011 with the second generation unveiled at the 2010 Paris Motor Show. The third generation was announced in 2017 and production began in 2018 with a base model setting you back around £156,700. It’s 12-cylinder engine is designed, developed and produced in Crewe, England. Figures from Bentley indicate a top speed of 207 mph and 0-60 mph in 3.6 seconds. If a brand-new model is a bit of reach, used prices start from around £25,000.
