Highly Recommended. Wonderful in every way – a combination of everything a great car should be.
Where do you start with the best of the best?
Because, let’s be honest, that’s what the Aston Martin Vanquish is.
It’s not only an Aston Martin, it’s the Aston Martin that sits proudly at the top of the British firm’s model range.
It’s Aston’s flagship Grand Tourer and, boy, is it worthy of that title.
Before we even get inside, let’s just look at it for a minute.
The Vanquish is sublime in every way – instantly recognisable as an Aston, but every inch a 2016 interpretation with its sharp back and front ends signaling an evolution from rounder shapes of recent history.
It oozes design, engineering and craftsmanship greatness from every pore.
When you’ve finished admiring the outside, there’s plenty more to enjoy when you slip into the driver’s seat.
The interior is, as you’d expect, flawless.
Aston says that one million stiches go into every Vanquish. That says it all really, doesn’t it?
The materials are second-to-none, the fit and finish likewise.
And then you push the start button.
What follows next is a wonderful sound as the Vanquish’s 568bhp V12 roars into life.
And there is loads of power when you get moving, delivered instantly through eight-speed auto transmission in 130 milliseconds.
That engine is the most powerful production engine in Aston’s history, good for 60mph in 3.6 seconds and a top-end of 201mph.
The power is glorious, never-ending and accompanied by the soundtrack that goes with a GT like this.
A long distance journey in a car like this is the stuff of dreams, but it’s also plenty of fun on tight, windy roads, with buckets and buckets of grip – it just sticks to the road.
Its litheness, despite its meaty GT size, is attributed in no small part to the use of much carbon fibre – aerospace engineered carbon fibre at that.
Aston didn’t mess about – every panel is constructed from the most advanced carbon to be found.
And when you do want to calm things down and cruise, a new infotainment system is at your fingertips, integrating everything the Vanquish has to offer, with 2017 set to bring an upgraded sat nav as well.
Whether you go for coupe or volante, the Vanquish is the very best of Aston Martin.
As a combination of power, driving experience and luxury, there’s nothing better, although you might have a tough time choosing between this, a Ferrari F12 or a Bentley Continental GT.
1. Mind-blowing performance.
2. Unrivalled engineering.
3. Unrivalled quality.
We don't like:
1. Some might say it’s more of the same from Aston.
2. It’s not exactly cheap...
3. Nothing else.
Most fun: One engine available – and what an engine.
Most sensible: This isn’t really a car for those interested in sensible.
